Missouri State University; Ed.D., Curriculum and Instruction, Liberty University<\/p>\n<p class=\"pop-4 dig-4\">Dr. Hackworth has had an in-depth career focused on health and physical education. He spent 21 years teaching K-12, with most of his time spent instructing classes on the secondary level. Additionally, Dr. Hackworth coached various sports during his tenure as a physical educator.<\/p>\n<p>He has presented at several conferences, presenting on tag rugby, curriculum in the physical education classroom, and using humor to engage students in the classroom. Additionally, he presented to school districts on the development of middle school physical education curricula.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hackworth is a recipient of the Florida Society of Health and Physical Educators Teacher of the Year for Health award. In addition, he has had two articles published in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Dr. Hackworth\u2019s research interests include curriculum and instruction in the physical education classroom and health &amp; wellness preventive efforts, starting with education on the elementary and secondary levels.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hackworth\u2019s passion for education has been evident throughout his career. His purpose in life is to help equip future professionals in the field of health and exercise science with the tools needed to make a positive impact in their future careers. He strives to create a classroom for students that promotes creativity, critical thinking, respect for all, and a sense of community.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hackworth is happily married and enjoys reading, an assistant Athletic Trainer at College of the Siskiyous. Five years later, I was promoted to become the Head Faculty Athletic Trainer. While at COS, I was responsible for athletic training duties as well as course and program development. I also served as an adjunct instructor in the athletic training, biology, and physical education departments.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, I took over the role of Head Athletic Trainer at Cal State Monterey Bay. In that position I oversaw all things sport performance related including Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy and all medical contact between the athletes and the medical In addition to teaching at SOU, he was the campus Health Promotion Specialist from 2011-2018 and facilitated a number of campus programs related to student wellness.<\/p>\n<p>He has presented at several conferences, high schools, and colleges on issues such as substance use and college life, leadership, technology and teens, stress, sleep, and prescription drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is Matt passionate about Health Promotion, he is a strong advocate for critical thinking, respect, and dynamic engagement in the classroom. He is a strong proponent of a heterodox approach where a variety of perspectives are welcome, and mutual understanding can be achieved through viewpoint diversity and dialogue.
