been around on SOU\u2019s campus for nearly 100 years!<\/span> Starting in print in 1926 this paper has been widely loved by students, faculty, and community members. This first edition of the paper can be found in <a href=\"https:\/\/hanlib.sou.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SOU\u2019s Hannon Library<\/a> in the Special Collections room. One of the things that makes this publication stand out is the fact that it has been student-led and run since its beginning (to read more about the early editions of the newspaper, <a href=\"https:\/\/siskiyou.sou.edu\/2013\/02\/22\/for-the-record-the-siskiyou-chronicles-86-years-of-history-both-on-and-off-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">check out this article<\/a>). <em>The Siskiyou<\/em> focuses on the voices of SOU students and events on campus, in the community, and in the world that are relevant to students. Rebekah is a creative writing major and a digital cinema minor. She has aspirations of becoming a professional writer and a creative writing professor. She hopes to use her strengths and her position as editor to \u201cbe creative and help others learn how to write well.\u201d She loves writing in all forms, but has a strong affinity for writing fiction. As far as journalistic writing goes, Rebekah&#8217;s favorite thing to write about is on-campus events. Some of her articles include information on the <a href=\"https:\/\/siskiyou.sou.edu\/2023\/05\/17\/student-film-festival-happening-on-june-7th\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SOU Student Film Festival, Rouge Earth Day<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/siskiyou.sou.edu\/2023\/03\/01\/what-happened-while-hero-was-dead-a-comedic-tragedy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">play reviews<\/a>. She hopes to write more stories about campus life to \u201cprovide information to help students make their time at SOU more than just the monotonous rhythm of going to class and then going back to their dorm because there is so much more in store for students here on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Allan Jones is a Theatre major and hopes to work in the entertainment industry. Allan states that he \u201cbrings a positive, albeit goofy, attitude to <em>The Siskiyou<\/em> team, and captivating, but truthful, storytelling in my writing.\u201d Allan loves writing creatively and about the arts, as well as using writing as a tool to \u201cempathize with the everyday person.\u201d Previously, Allan has written a wide variety of articles. Many of his featured articles focus on community events like the <a href=\"https:\/\/siskiyou.sou.edu\/2023\/05\/10\/on-the-fringe-of-fascination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10 year anniversary of the Fringe Festival, Alumni awards<\/a>, and updates with the <a href=\"https:\/\/siskiyou.sou.edu\/2023\/05\/31\/osf-artistic-director-nataki-garrett-steps-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oregon Shakespeare Festival\u2019s season<\/a>. Similarly to The Siskiyou, these meetings fight for issues important to the student body and focus on making students\u2019 lives better. The editors highly encourage student writers, but also accept articles from community members.
