Her time at SOU grew her love of writing and she was able to hone her writing skills through her <a href=\"\/academics\/english\/\">English<\/a> classes and <a href=\"\/academics\/creative-writing\/\">Creative Writing<\/a> workshops. These courses prepared her for a process that she repeated constantly throughout her career: writing, receiving feedback, and revising. After graduate school in New York City, Abbigail moved to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam where she now lives with her husband and daughter and works on her novels and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abbigailrosewood.com\/other-writing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">other writing<\/a>. Published in 2019, this novel tells the story of a young girl who grows up in a military camp in 1990s Vietnam and immigrates to New York as an adult where she learns what it means to be loved, how to define home, and how to live in the \u201caftermath of ruins.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" id=\"style-css-av-lthjylim-2a09494dc09c5703d93868545270ab72\">\n#top .av_textblock_section.av-lthjylim-2a09494dc09c5703d93868545270ab72 .avia_textblock{\nfont-size:15px;\n}\n<\/style>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-lthjylim-2a09494dc09c5703d93868545270ab72 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Her second novel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abbigailrosewood.com\/constellations-of-eve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Constellations of Eve<\/em><\/a>, was published in 2022 and is described as a \u201cphilosophical fable of art and fate.\u201d The protagonist, Eve, exists in multiple realities and grapples with finding her ambitions and destiny. She states that publishing takes an emotional toll; \u201cEvery stage involves your work getting rejected, first by agents, then by publishers, and finally if you\u2019re lucky enough, by readers.\u201d She thinks that \u201ca writer\u2019s full-time job is getting rejected\u2014if you can get used to this, you could have a long writing career.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" id=\"style-css-av-lthk22xt-2619dc82ed6db0d6fd509e6d488dcd98\">\n#top .av_textblock_section.av-lthk22xt-2619dc82ed6db0d6fd509e6d488dcd98 .avia_textblock{\nfont-size:15px;\n}\n<\/style>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-lthk22xt-2619dc82ed6db0d6fd509e6d488dcd98 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Abbigail loves being a writer for the freedom it gives her, as well as the process of \u201cmaking something out of nothing.\u201d Abbigail\u2019s writing routines have changed drastically since she had her daughter. Recently, she has intentionally dedicated a few mornings a week to writing. Her writing ritual includes \u201ccoffee, ambient music, and a focus app that blocks distractions for the allotted hour or two.\u201d Writing can be a complicated process, and often Abigail finds herself writing as a way of working through difficult thoughts and feelings: \u201cI write to find out what I already know but hasn\u2019t surfaced to a conscious level.\u201d Because of this, she sometimes finds herself struggling with the writing process, but shows up and commits to her routine even when experiencing writer&#8217;s block.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" id=\"style-css-av-lthk28qy-bab21e4cb8943849d9bb860cad169e38\">\n#top .av_textblock_section.av-lthk28qy-bab21e4cb8943849d9bb860cad169e38 .avia_textblock{\nfont-size:15px;\n}\n<\/style>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-lthk28qy-bab21e4cb8943849d9bb860cad169e38 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>When asked to give advice to aspiring writers and authors, Abbigail shared that \u201cPerfectionism stunts growth. Don\u2019t try to be an author\u2014I\u2019ve seen people attempt to network, find agents before their work is ready. It\u2019s not only a waste of time, it\u2019s detrimental to your process.
