FNP-C<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"heavy-man\">\u00bfQui\u00e9n es?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>El Dr. Cristian Mendoza Ruvalcaba, BA, APRN, FNP-C, es un ex alumno de la universidad que ha creado una trayectoria profesional y personal verdaderamente impresionante. \u00c9l ha utilizado sus conocimientos ling\u00fc\u00edsticos no solo para elevar su carrera en el sector de la salud, sino tambi\u00e9n para fortalecer sus conexiones familiares y culturales.<br \/>\nDespu\u00e9s de graduarse en 2018, el Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba, comenz\u00f3 a trabajar como maestro de espa\u00f1ol en una escuela secundaria en Medford, Oregon. Esto lo hac\u00eda mientras persegu\u00eda sus ambiciones en el sector de la salud, estudiando enfermer\u00eda. En 2019, empez\u00f3 a trabajar en un hospital en Medford como enfermero, lo que le permiti\u00f3 adquirir experiencia en la industria de la salud.<\/p>\n<p>Tras ganar experiencia laboral, decidi\u00f3 continuar su educaci\u00f3n en el campo m\u00e9dico y se registr\u00f3 como estudiante en OHSU, donde obtuvo su doctorado en pr\u00e1ctica de enfermer\u00eda en 2022. Al graduarse, el Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba recibi\u00f3 una variedad de oportunidades, incluyendo trabajar como enfermero practicante en La Cl\u00ednica de Buena Salud en Portland, Oregon, y en La Cl\u00ednica del Valle en Medford. Durante sus estudios, el Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba tambi\u00e9n realiz\u00f3 una pr\u00e1ctica en Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic en Salem, Oregon. Estos sitios m\u00e9dicos se dedican a proveer servicios m\u00e9dicos a la comunidad hispanohablante.<\/p>\n<p>Actualmente, el Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba, sigue involucrado en la industria m\u00e9dica, pero tambi\u00e9n tiene otras metas para avanzar en su carrera. Planea colaborar con la Dra. Bonnie Holmes, profesora para el programa de espa\u00f1ol, para ofrecer cursos en conjunto con 糖心传媒 University, ampliando el alcance del programa de espa\u00f1ol para incluir clases especializadas en terminolog\u00eda m\u00e9dica. Adem\u00e1s, busca desarrollar un enfoque educativo que promueva la diversidad en el aprendizaje del idioma y de la enfermer\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heavy-man\">Desaf\u00edos<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Su experiencia estudiantil y laboral no ha estado exenta de desaf\u00edos. \u00c9l se\u00f1ala que, al trabajar en la industria de la salud, percibi\u00f3 una notable falta de servicios m\u00e9dicos disponibles en espa\u00f1ol. Aunque su conocimiento del idioma le permiti\u00f3 atender a muchos pacientes hispanohablantes, observa que algunos pacientes le comentaban que el uso de int\u00e9rpretes en algunas ocasiones generaba desconfianza entre los pacientes al compartir informaci\u00f3n personal a trav\u00e9s de un intermediario.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heavy-man\">Motivaci\u00f3n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>El Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba coment\u00f3 que, desde joven, tener padres inmigrantes lo motiv\u00f3 a seguir estudiando y mejorando sus habilidades ling\u00fc\u00edsticas. No le gustaba mezclar ingl\u00e9s y espa\u00f1ol para comunicarse con ellos, y sab\u00eda que avanzar en el idioma a nivel profesional le abrir\u00eda m\u00e1s oportunidades en su carrera y le permitir\u00eda comunicarse mejor con su familia en M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n<p>Hoy, el Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba siente que sus aspiraciones se han cumplido. Considera que sus lazos familiares y su conexi\u00f3n con su herencia cultural son m\u00e1s fuertes, especialmente con su familia en M\u00e9xico. Adem\u00e1s, aprender el idioma le ha dado confianza para involucrarse en entornos multiculturales y ha mejorado sus experiencias personales al poder comunicarse y entender diferentes perspectivas.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heavy-man\">Pieza Clave<\/span><\/p>\n<p>El Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba aduce que el programa de espa\u00f1ol de SOU ha sido fundamental en su \u00e9xito. He has used his linguistic skills to advance his career in the healthcare sector while also strengthening his family and cultural connections.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating in 2018, Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba began working as a Spanish teacher at a high school in Medford, Oregon. He balanced this role while pursuing his goals in the healthcare field, studying nursing. In 2019, he started working as a nurse at a hospital in Medford, allowing him to gain valuable experience in the healthcare industry.<br \/>\nBuilding on his work experience, he decided to continue his education in the medical field and enrolled at OHSU, where he achieved his Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2022. Upon graduating, Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba received various opportunities, including working as a family nurse practitioner at La Cl\u00ednica de Buena Salud in Portland, Oregon, and La Cl\u00ednica del Valle in Medford. He also completed a practicum at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic in Salem, Oregon, during his time studying. These medical facilities are all dedicated to providing healthcare services to the Spanish-speaking community.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba remains actively engaged in the medical field, with ambitions to advance his career. He plans to collaborate with Dr. Bonnie Holmes, a professor in the Spanish program, to offer joint courses with 糖心传媒 University, expanding the range of the Spanish program by including specialized classes in medical terminology. Additionally, he aims to develop an educational approach that promotes diversity in language learning and nursing.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heavy-man\">Challenges<\/span><\/p>\n<p>His academic and professional journey has been challenging. He points out that while working in healthcare, he observed a significant lack of medical services available in Spanish. Although his language skills allowed him to serve many Spanish-speaking patients, he noticed that some patients expressed mistrust when sharing personal information through an interpreter.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heavy-man\">Motivation<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba shared that having immigrant parents motivated him to continue studying and improving his linguistic skills from a young age. He disliked mixing English and Spanish when communicating with them, and recognized that advancing his proficiency at a professional level would open more career opportunities and enable him to communicate better with his family in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba feels his aspirations have been achieved. He believes his family ties and connection to his cultural heritage are stronger, especially with his relatives in Mexico. Moreover, learning the language has given him the confidence to engage in multicultural environments, improving his personal experiences by enabling him to communicate and understand different perspectives.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heavy-man\">A Key Element<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba credits SOU&#8217;s Spanish program as key to his success. He acknowledges the program for providing an environment where he could significantly improve his communication skills, helping him overcome linguistic barriers many of his family members face. He also highlights that the program equipped him with professional-level language skills, giving him a competitive edge and unique opportunities, particularly in multicultural healthcare. One notable achievement was writing his capstone project in Spanish.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heavy-man\">Final Recommendations<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mendoza Ruvalcaba encourages current and future students to study Spanish with patience and internal motivation.
